WORSHIPING TOGETHER: POSTPONED
REOPENING SAFELY GUIDELINES
Who knew that in the year 2020 in Topeka, Kansas, we would be part of a worldwide pandemic? For many of us this is a completely new experience, and we are navigating it with a great deal of faith, hope, and love. At this time, we will continue to worship online, as we evaluate the progression of the pandemic in Kansas.
At West Side our greatest guide is Love—so it is not a surprise that the West Side Board recognized the importance of worshiping in a manner that shows love and care for the health and safety of all congregants by following thoughtful safety guidelines, when we are able to meet together again:
Each congregant will be asked to wear a mask to care for the health of others. (If there are health reasons that you cannot wear a mask, please let us know in the church office before you come to worship.) Please bring your own mask if you have one. If you do not own a mask, West Side volunteers have lovingly made some fabric masks that will be available at the front door as you enter.
Offering will be placed in baskets as you enter the sanctuary.
Deacons or Ushers will seat you and your family in a pew that is socially distanced from other families.
Hymnals and Bibles have been removed. Feel free to use a Bible app on your smartphone. We recommend the YouVersion Bible app which has multiple translations available. You can find it where you normally download apps for your phone.
Because singing can cause the virus to linger in the air, we will celebrate and praise God with other forms of music.
Communion prayers will take place at the end of worship, and you will be dismissed by rows to pick up communion as you leave the sanctuary.
Restrooms will be open allowing one person at a time inside, except when assistance is needed. Please use the disinfectant spray on all surfaces your skin has touched before leaving the restroom.
It will be a joy to worship together again! Remember, however, if you are feeling ill or exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home. If you have health issues that make you more susceptible to the virus, we understand that you may choose to worship at home, and we support that decision. We will hold you in our hearts wherever you worship. For those unable to worship in-person, once services resume, online worship will continue to be available. We are also looking into some other possibilities that might enhance your worship experience away from West Side.
Thank you for your strong faith and continued love for the Lord as we continue to adapt to the rapid changes in the world. God’s hand continues to guide our steps.
With faith, hope, and love,
Rev. Donna Gilchrist
