WELCOMING YOU HOME
We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.
As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord's Table as God has welcomed us.
Watch here for future events we are planning to roll out when it is safe to do so!
A MESSAGE OF HOPE
A tiny virus has forced us into a whole new way of living and relating to each other, and there are a plethora of feelings that go along with that: frustration at not being able to find what we need at the store, anxiety about work and where we will find the money to pay bills, concern for family and friends…
The coronavirus is forcing us to adapt on a daily basis. It’s frustrating to think we might finally be getting a grip on things, only to have the rug pulled out from under us again.
We are creatures of habit who take comfort in our routines, and with the coronavirus all that has
When God was preparing Moses to go free the Israelites, Moses asked God, “Who shall I say you are?” God responded, “I AM.” That can be translated “I am what I am,” or “I will be what I will be.”
I love that scripture. It tells me that God is God. It gives God the flexibility to adapt to different situations while still being God. In the book of Genesis, we read that you and I are made in God’s image. We, too, can retain our unique identity while still being flexible and adaptable. God has given us the ability to create new understandings and to find new ways of being…even though we feel lost right now in the midst of all this change.
So how do we get through? We get real with ourselves and God, recognizing what is most important right now, in this day or in this moment, and helping out as much as we can. We get real about our feelings of anger and fear and grief, and recognize that in those moments when we feel we can’t go a step farther, there are other people walking beside us, holding us up. Then, when we can stand again, we do the same thing for someone else.
I hope that you understand God to be, above all else, love…a Love that is so great that it can adapt to anything and still remain resilient. Coronavirus or not, God remains with us. Perhaps God might say, “I AM everything you need right now and some things you haven’t even thought of."
With Gratitude for God,
Rev. Donna Gilchrist
